Dr. Julian Rivera has a passion for taking care of all manner of creatures. He has been interested in wildlife and exotic animals since graduating from Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine. He has worked in zoological and companion animal settings, including externships at the Bronx Zoo, Brookfield Zoo and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. He has also worked abroad on wildlife population health projects in Indonesia and Mexico. After vet school, he completed a small animal rotating internship at the ASPCA Animal Hospital on the Upper East Side, after which he completed an Avian and Exotics Internship at Blue Pearl, Tampa. He is particularly interested in evidence-based medicine, marsupial pocket pets, avian medicine, and preventive care for all animals. He is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians. Dr. Rivera is originally from Chicago, and spends his free time running, playing ice hockey, and watching ridiculous 80s action movies. He is also learning to be a plant dad. He has a very sweet cat, Loch, who is trained to sit, stay, come and play dead (among other tricks) and is an excellent mouser (sorry mice).
